Cream Angelfish

Cream AngelfishToday I decided to profile a fish that stood out to me. When I came upon the Cream Angelfish I knew I’d found my specimen for the day. Despite the rather angelic sounding name, this breed of angelfish is actually kind of a bad seed, which I like. You can’t keep two Cream Angelfish in a tank because they WILL fight and generally, one will die. Also, these little fishies have a nasty habit of nippy at both hard and soft coral, as well as taking shots at clam mantles. This fish is originally found in the Indian Ocean, primarily around Sri Lanka.

But, don’t get me wrong, the Cream Angelfish isn’t all bad. This fish is also know as the Xanthurus Cream Angelfish or the Yellowtail Black Angelfish, due in part to its appearance. The body of this fish is a blackish silver color but the tail is a bright yellow. No doubt that this little guy would brighten up your tank considerably.

Another advantage of owning a Cream Angelfish is that they are very easy to keep and feed. All that they really need to thrive is a tank of at least 60 gallons and lots of places to hide. Live rock is also a big bonus because there the fish will graze and ingest valuable nutrients. Cream Angelfish are omnivores, so you should feed them a diet of pellets and brine. They’ll round off their nutrition requirements by grazing and other activities.

Cream Angelfish are also rather cheap, if cost factors into your aquarium choices. Be aware, though, that many pet stores, including those on the Internet, will not let you purchase more than two specimens at a time. You’ll have to state that you understand the fish can’t be housed in the same tank for the legal purposes of the distributor.

Do you own a Cream Angelfish? If you do, please let me know how you feel about the little guys. I’ve decided that they are my favorite fish this week, so any information would be great! Post a comment and let me know!
